La Mesa approached me to design a modern twist on traditional Mexican culinary branding. I developed a playful yet elegant identity system, combining bold colors, handmade typography, and mural designs that celebrate the spirit of CDMX.
Goal 11 Sustainable Cites & Communities
The creation of this brandmark required several alterations and, at times, complete revisions of the concept in order for it to become successful in the overall brand narrative. Semantically, the brandmark communicates a story of structural soundness and collaboration with the natural world through the incorporation of three elements present in the design. The mark becomes meta in its meaning through the usage of deliberate intrinsic placement and color usage. Syntactically, the brandmark creates cohesiveness between two separate ideas, cities and communities, as well as their connection to the concept of sustainability with the incorporation of two harmonious typefaces. Pragmatically, this brandmark utilizes the assumed space to create a geometric, or structural feeling, similar to that of cities. It relies on the geometric lines to contrast the curvature of the mark itself.
