Overview

For this project, I translated my personal identity into a visual brand and developed a designer persona across a range of printed materials. After completely reworking the visual language and layout, I brought the identity from vector artwork into physical applications, including handmade business cards, stickers, iron-on pieces, and giveaway items. I prepared print-ready files and coordinated production across different processes, from working with a print shop to produce letterpress plates and printing pieces myself, to preparing files for mass-produced stickers and other applications. The result is a cohesive identity system that carries my personal brand across a variety of tactile formats.

Process

This project began with an exercise in sketching within a diverse range of concepts and styles to find a visual language that felt like me. Working through different directions on paper let me test ideas quickly, from letterforms and monograms to layouts and overall mood, before committing to anything digital. Although, once I entered the digital landscape, most of my refinements turned from sketches into digital doodles and refinements.

Redesign
I developed my first direction into a full identity, but early feedback showed it wasn't communicating the polish I wanted a hiring manager to see. Rather than tweaking it, I returned to my sketches and rebuilt the identity from scratch with a cleaner, more refined style. I discovered that I am my most difficult client. Iterations galore. However, despite the extensive iteration phase, my final design was ultimately better suited to letterpress, where simpler shapes and confident line weights allow for successful printing.

Nearly all of the business card iterations I went through before shifting into my final logo design.
