The Problem

The Regional Transportation District is responsible for safely moving thousands of commuters a day. The RTD MyRide app is a helpful aid in the transportation process, offering home for both the purchasing and access of transport tickets for any RTD service. However, a good majority of the app’s features are not housed within the app and often have the user moving to a browser for their utilization.

considerations

The current RTD brand is well thought-out and is intentionally approachable. The colors, typographic considerations, and applications align with the brand as “The People Who Move People.” The intention of the redesign is to re-contextualize the app’s interactivity from a different perspective on approachability. Public transportation generally has the stereotype of being for a specific audience and use case and it is often associated with lower class users who may or may not have access to a personal vehicle. This is a tendency often adopted in the US to better promote a car-centric lifestyle. This redesign takes a brand that supports the movement around a city and situates it within the premise that public transportation is the more desirable option.

Solution

The redesign allows for features such as the “Plan a Trip” option to remain local to the application. The colors, type, and components are designed to elevate the overall experience surrounding public transportation. The redesign is optimized for both mobile as well as WatchOS platforms.
